Case Studies - On site vessel conversion

On site vessel conversion

We have recently completed a contract for a major specialty oil manufacturer. The initial enquiry encompassed the designing of a means of installing weighing equipment into their existing plant. Due to the plant lay out it was paramount that the vessels all remained at their existing heights. This was further complicated by the existing plant being installed into existing steel work which also supported a mezzanine floor.

Whilst negotiating the contract we were told that the client had been advised by one of the national weighing company's senior engineers that it was impossible to fit weighing equipment to his plant.

We won this contract on the merits of our designs and approach along with how it was integrated into his existing plant along with minimal impact into the space required to the plant operators / operations.

The contract was carried out as a split order / joint venture with Applied Weighing. Our scope of supply was design, manufacture and installation on site. Also included in this was civils in that an integral part of the design phase included the assesment of existing floor slabs and the sub soils beneath the plant. After this evaluation it was found that the new system would require the design and installation of a pile system.

All the installation phase of this contract was carried out whilst the plant was fully operational as plant down time was not an option for this client.

Once we had carried out the mechanical parts of this contract the calibration of the systems we had engineered was carried out & certified by Applied.

The operations director was delighted with the accuracy achieved from all the installed systems as being beyond his specifications and achieving 1 kilo in 20,000kg batch accuracy.
